Strawberry

I have a confession to make. I am utterly obsessed with strawberries.
Honestly, I'm not even kidding here.

Awww...I just want to bite right into this deep-pink fruit. Maybe even add some whipped cream or sugar or a combo of both and just enjoy it. Yes, I am that obsessed with strawberries.

When I worked at the strawberry festival and from time to time even enjoyed walking through all those food stands and looking at all those fun creativities they chose to display I fell even more in love with this amazing fruit. Okay, before I get too mushy over a simple fruit..ha, I never thought this could happen, here are a few fact you may or may not know about strawberries:
  • Did you know that strawberries have been used as a symbol of longevity and purity and that for centuries? Some cultures even saw it as a symbol of peace and perfection.
  • The strawberry is apparently the only fruit with its seeds on the outside rather than on the inside.
  • Due to the above fact, some say it is not even a real berry.
  • Some cultures believed it was a poisonous fruit (e.g. Argentina up until 1850)
  • In 2007 it said that about 23,000 acres of strawberries were planted in California alone, and that each year of course.
  • There's a museum in Belgium entirely dedicated to this cute fruit.
  • It is obviously Vitamin C-packed.
  • Strawberries are the first fruits to ripe in the spring.
  • One cup of strawberries has only 55 calories (of course without sugar and cream!)
  • Strawberries have the best flavor when they are room-temperatured. *I think I just made a word up*
  • Apparent historical fact is that strawberries were used to heal sunburns.
  • This fruit can also play part in reducing the risk of cancer or heart disease
It is a super fruit!
Unfortunately, there are people that cannot enjoy it because of allergies. So sorry. :(

The only thing I can't stand is strawberry ice cream. How weird is that?
But I love looking at pictures and getting inspired, so eating my favorite fruit won't get boring around here.

Have you ever had strawberries with black pepper on it? Or with balsamic vinegar? Sound weird? It's super delicious! There are a lot more "weird" combos out there, but all I can say is try it first before you wrinkle your nose and say No. ;)

I'm gonna put some things on my grocery list for tomorrow's salad!
Never had it but it sounds so refreshing - although it's cooled down a lot over here I am in need of some healthy stuff lately.

Happy Tuesday everyone.

xoxo,

What Strawberry Festival did you used to work at? You used to live in SoCal, right? (You don't now?) I went to the one in Oxnard last year :)

I've heard of the strawberry/balsamic combo, but honestly haven't been brave enough to try it yet.

I love strawberries in a salad...which was a big step for me as I usually allow fruits go into fruit salad.
