Number 7 *yes, the month!*

Holy???!!! July?!
Didn't I just write something about mid-June?! Insane.
Time sure flies and honestly, it scares me. A lot. Positively and negatively.
July?!! How come this month is here already? Wow.

So, with a new month starting...here's what's been keeping me entertained (good and bad vibes!)
  • World Cup (hello Spain!!!!!; glad you're back and please keep being as awesome as you've been over the years)
  • Summer heat. It's finally here.
  • My upcoming trip
  • True Blood, Season 3 (hello Eric!!!)
  • Time away from work (so needed)
  • My shampoo and body lotion both making me smell like a huge coconut
  • TV series keeping me entertained. As much as I would like to deny it I am hooked on stupid TV. Never wanted to be but it just so happened. It keeps me sane and it's what's needed.
  • Allergies (they suck, big time)
  • TV series keeping me entertained. Life happens out there not inside the house. However, life at the moment is lonely and quite boring so I am just keeping me busy
  • Work.
  • Bad weather throughout May and June (until the heatwave kicked in - hello 90s!)
  • My left leg (hurts like hell at times...)
  • Big city; can't stand living in a small town
  • My age (and yes I know we are as old as we feel and I don't feel at all like #$%$#; I just feel weird)
  • Missing fun, daily plans, friends, and spontaneity

Yes, every day is a  new day. Even July 1st. Wow.
This is coming from me?!
What happened? Don't worry, my weird summer misery is still lingering around (pissing me off every now and then) but it's all good. I'm trying to stay as positively as even possible because my vacay is about to start...two more days and I'm done!! At least for the next almost 20 freakin' days! I'm stoked!!

And today I'm going to enjoy this very nice July 1, 2010..even at work before the heat starts to annoy us because after 10am it's unbearable. And have I ever mentioned (I'm sure I have) we have no AC!! Oh, and no fan either. ;) YES.

Happy Thursday!

My Upcoming Trip

So, yes, I'm traveling again...my next destination is going to be London.
Not as exciting as Hawaii, Florida, Italy, south of France or any other place...but it's going to be fun!!!

Just to inspire you (and me of course)...here's what I'm going to look forward to...can't believe I'm going back to this marvelous city!

Wonder when I'm going?

Bummer and Hooooorray!!!

Happy Monday!
How was your weekend?!

Mine was great.

Saturday...festival was awesome...lots of sunshine, lots of people, great music, fun discussion with an Aussie guy about soccer, bad cellphone reception (total chaos when so many try to get in touch with everyone around...worse than on New Year's Eve!), and just a nice day and night to remember.
Unfortunately, soccer wasn't on our side and the US lost! My mom updated me every time something happened. And well, her last text said "sorry". No further words were necessary.

Sunday I was determined to stay home. And I did. I slept in till 11 or something and then stayed on my balcony and soaked up the sun. ;) Had coffee and brunch, watched Pretty Little Liars, painted my toenails, chilled on the sofa, took a nap and at 4pm I watched soccer. I wanted to do this and I knew I was going to do this. It was sooooooo worth it!!!
Let me get one thing straight: I cannot stand soccer. I know the rules and all, would not be able to explain it to you and some of my knowledge might be a bit rusty but still...I cannot stand that game. I think it's funny to see men running after a ball and all but it's what's been keeping people around the world busy and it's one game I can tolerate on a hot Sunday afternoon when there's really nothing else I wanna do. Reason I wanted to watch the game on Sunday afternoon...was two things: one, Germany was playing (and yes, now everyone knows I favor them! - might be my 1/4 of German blood running through my veins!) and two...to see David Beckham from time to time just sitting and cursing and being all serious and hot is just worth it. :) Germany won (thank you!, sorry everyone else!), and I'm happy about this. Now let me tell you another thing...as much as I love to watch the German team play well and so smoothly (because they can play!!!!!, not like other teams that have no sense in direction or knowledge about the word teamwork) I don't want them to win the World Cup. I just want someone new to win it this time. Not even Argentina...just someone knew, something no one expects! We'll see how that goes. My fingers are crossed for whoever gets to play in the finals and then wins!!!

Now, Monday...five more days and I can relax again. Finally. It's about time.
I need a vacation. I'm more than just exhausted it's not even funny anymore.
I never thought I'd say this but working this much is not for me. Working this massive amount of days with this massive amount of bitterness in the air is just not right for me. I'd rather be not working and enjoying life as it is precious than having to deal with sick me. And sick me is not fun. Never is and never will be.

Happy Monday everyone!!!
I'm counting down the days!

Weekend

Happy weekend everyone.
What are you up to?!

I'm enjoying my days off.
There's this festival going on in town today and I'm going to join the fun.
Weather's hot,  too.
My body aches in every single possible corner
*not so sure why - I didn't even work out, maybe that's it*
...and I just need to go out and explore life.
We all do.

Happy weekend!!!
And go USA!!! :)
So sad I'm gonna miss the game today.
Fingers are crossed though. Big time!

Fill In The Blank Friday - Food

Time for Lauren's Fill in the Blank Friday again.
You have no idea how much I was looking forward to this day.
I can't believe it's Friday and I'm stoked it is Friday, around noon-ish already!
Just one more day *today* and I get two solid days off work (the regular weekend). I thought this day would never come. Originally they planned only one day off for me but they changed it which I truly appreciate.
And then, they changed another thing...next week I work only five days and then I'm having two wonderfully long weeks off!!! Can you believe it?! I can't...but will once it's time!

So, this week's Fill in the blank has the food theme...so here are my answers...

1.  If I could choose my last meal it would be    smoked salmon on green salad with a balsamic dressing, some Sushi on the side, and then roasted lamb with potato gratin and veggies, and tiramisu as dessert (plus, good wine and coffee of course!!!)  .

2.  My favorite person to share a meal with is   any person who enjoys the given meal as it is    because,    I don't have to listen to him/her complaining all the time because he/she doesn't like this or that on the plate or will have an upset stomach after eating this or that. Just order something you like and will have no problems with, so we can have a normal conversation that goes beyond the food topic.
And yes, that's one thing that irriates me about many people (close friends and family included)...just read the menu, find something you know you like and if there's something in it you can't stand ask to have it replaced or left out when you order. I don't want to hear you talk about how this will ruin your diet or upset your stomach or whatever else for the next 15 to 30 minutes. Come to think of it...I think one of my cousins is my favorite person to share a meal with...he practically eats everything and enjoys it all!!! haha!

3.  The best meal I've ever had was   any meal I had after returning "home" again...now this can be seen as so many meals. Best meal was one my aunt cooked in Ventura, best meal was one my mom cooked for me here in Switzerland, best meal also was one I had last year in Istanbul my aunt knew I would love. Now go figure?! Which one?! All of them. It's always the first meal I have when I come home again.  And home to me is all three places...so it's not exactly what it is but when I eat it. I eat my first meal (back in that particular country) very slowly and enjoy every single bite. It usually takes me forever to finish that first meal but it's all worth it. And I have to admit there were times tears appeared too....

4.  The one food that makes me feel instantly better when I'm having a bad day is   a glazed donut, and since I can't really find one here I always go for a raspberry muffin .

5.  My absolute specialty in the kitchen is     ... I don't have one that I would call "absolute specialty".  I like trying new things. I also like mixing various cuisines together and make it my own fusion cooking...My aunt calls it Selmanese style. I make a good Oyakodonburi (Japanese rice dish with chicken, onion and egg) but I do add some stuff or make it a tiny bit different, so it's not that authentic. My "Ventura Salad" is to die for (yes, sounds conceited but it's what it is!), and my Jambalaya's great too (that is if you like hot!) .

6.  The city that has the best food is    *seriously? just one city?* Istanbul *and I'm biased here*    and my favorite restaurant there is    hmmmm...just one?! Seriously, when it comes to food and restaurants I can't pick one...there's Koco, there's Zanzibar, there's...I could go on and on and on....so this is very hard. I could also pick other cities because I just can't pick one particular city!!! That's what I get from traveling too much! Hmmmm....this makes me hungry now.

7.  My favorite healthy snack is    slices of granny smith apples. Can't get enough of them.

8.  In my opinion the nationality which has the best food is    ...how about area/continent?  Then it's  Asia - awesome Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and then Filipino food....yum!!!

9.  If I could learn to cook anything in the world (and be really good at it!) I'd choose    a good, healthy home dinner...for example just a steak with mashed potatoes *made from scratch, no box there*, gravy *also not from a box* and all the other things...just something comfortable, yummy, and homemade...or a roastbeef or something. I'm craving meat right now, can you tell? Just something my future kids would say "we look forward to eating mom's specialty...a childhood memory!"...just something like that.

10.  The most outrageous dessert I've ever had was    anything with chocolate. And here I mean outrageous in a completely different way. I don't like chocolate, so anything with chocolate is outrageous to me. Haha. And yes, I got plenty of that. :(
The most outrageous (in a good way) was a strawberry Pavlova in Istanbul. Awe (!!!)-mazing, will enver forget that one. Huge and topped with so many strawberries. Just awesome.

Happy Friday everyone!!!

Summer!!!

I can't believe my own eyes...the sun's here! She's really here in all her beauty and glory. I'm thrilled. Never thought this would ever happen again. And it's Thursday so in two days the weekend's here and this officially means a sunny weekend...awesome! Not sure what I'm going to do this weekend except for sleeping in, going to the annual old town festival here, and maybe to another festival on Sunday about two hours from here. The latter is still a thought. I was invited and you would think "hey, go...your life's lame and you should be doing fun stuff" and yes you're right but I also have to think of how I might be feeling then. Exhausted! Saturday that festival is a must, and then on Sunday I wanted to stay home and relax and pamper myself...and go to bed early because yes, I have early morning shifts again starting Monday and I need to wake up at 5 am. Grrrr...so I'm considering my options right now.

But before I give in and decide...let me start today with some summer pictures because I'm just in the mood for some summer fun and happy pics!!!

Happy Thursday everyone.

Happiness

Today I'm doing much better.
Some happy things happened so it's all good.

First of all, have you noticed?
Yes, I have my very own blog button!!! Yes.
No, I didn't make it myself. My lovely friend Sierra over at Ocean Dreams is the creative one! I love what she did, and I'm just super happy about this! Reason enough to blog about it. Thank you girl. :)

Second, it didn't rain today.
I can't believe this. Not even one drop.
And they said it's going to be warmer and nicer starting tomorrow!
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

My July trip is booked!
Will be gone for six days and can't wait to get out of here.
I need new directions and areas to inspire my daily urge for excitement, happiness, and fun. ;)
I wish I'd be going to some beach resort or so but I'm not.
Hopefully one day I can make it to Hawaii or some other hot and relaxing place!
More on my trip later on.

I only have three more days to work and then my weekend's about to start...literally.
It's going to be Saturday and Sunday. Yay!
And on Saturday, this city here is having its annual old town festival...with live music, lots of food stands, lots of stands in general selling all kinds of things...lots of people and yes, hopefully with lots of sunshine! I'm stoked! Party time. :)

Nothing else really happened these days just except for the fact that last night on my street a building was burning. Yes it was. One store is completely shot right now, they even had to evacuate people. I didn't hear anything. Smelled something this morning while walking by on my way to work but didn't notice anything. Then again, at 6.10 I'm mostly sleeping...even while walking to work and having my iPod with cool music on. Some things don't get noticed at all...the smell did but I couldn't think straight that early. While walking back home this afternoon I realized it more and wow, smelled it more. Glad no one got hurt...just tons of damage!

Happy Tuesday everyone!!!!

Picture Overload

I thought I owed you this one...

and looking at this last picture we look incredibly tired!!!!

All pictures taken by me and my friend A.  :)
We literally ate those calamari in that oldest bar and they were the best ever. Spicy, too!
We headed a bit up to Washington Square *can you spot me there?!*, and then found our way to Crumbs. Best cupcakes ever!!! I bet you can tell...haha!
Then we headed north to Times Square mainly so I can buy a much needed souvenir and give it to my friend F. She specifically requested something and I had to get it there. Glad I did though otherwise I would have never seen that horse eating out of that trash there. Sadly I couldn't capture it doing so but almost.
We visited Tiffany's & Co., saw awesome buildings and statues, walked by The Plaza and headed more north East to get to Serendipity and other nice buildings. :) We then walked through Central Park *yes, we did!*, spotted tons of runners, walkers, and funny people and headed over west to go straight to Columbia University. Of course by the time we got there it was dark but we didn't care, so we ended our day at Deluxe which I recommend if you ever if yourself in that area. It was reasonably priced, had great dishes and a fun waiter. We were able to sit outside. I can't believe this. This is literally the last time I had dinner sitting outside in a restaurant...and that was back in late April. So wanna go back now.

And yes, as the last picture shows...we were exhausted. I look like total crap so ignore me. And I just discovered that shirt makes me look fat so I threw it out. ha! ;)

Have a great day everyone. :)
