Fill In The Blank Friday - Food

Time for Lauren's Fill in the Blank Friday again.
You have no idea how much I was looking forward to this day.
I can't believe it's Friday and I'm stoked it is Friday, around noon-ish already!
Just one more day *today* and I get two solid days off work (the regular weekend). I thought this day would never come. Originally they planned only one day off for me but they changed it which I truly appreciate.
And then, they changed another thing...next week I work only five days and then I'm having two wonderfully long weeks off!!! Can you believe it?! I can't...but will once it's time!

So, this week's Fill in the blank has the food theme...so here are my answers...

1.  If I could choose my last meal it would be    smoked salmon on green salad with a balsamic dressing, some Sushi on the side, and then roasted lamb with potato gratin and veggies, and tiramisu as dessert (plus, good wine and coffee of course!!!)  .

2.  My favorite person to share a meal with is   any person who enjoys the given meal as it is    because,    I don't have to listen to him/her complaining all the time because he/she doesn't like this or that on the plate or will have an upset stomach after eating this or that. Just order something you like and will have no problems with, so we can have a normal conversation that goes beyond the food topic.
And yes, that's one thing that irriates me about many people (close friends and family included)...just read the menu, find something you know you like and if there's something in it you can't stand ask to have it replaced or left out when you order. I don't want to hear you talk about how this will ruin your diet or upset your stomach or whatever else for the next 15 to 30 minutes. Come to think of it...I think one of my cousins is my favorite person to share a meal with...he practically eats everything and enjoys it all!!! haha!

3.  The best meal I've ever had was   any meal I had after returning "home" again...now this can be seen as so many meals. Best meal was one my aunt cooked in Ventura, best meal was one my mom cooked for me here in Switzerland, best meal also was one I had last year in Istanbul my aunt knew I would love. Now go figure?! Which one?! All of them. It's always the first meal I have when I come home again.  And home to me is all three places...so it's not exactly what it is but when I eat it. I eat my first meal (back in that particular country) very slowly and enjoy every single bite. It usually takes me forever to finish that first meal but it's all worth it. And I have to admit there were times tears appeared too....

4.  The one food that makes me feel instantly better when I'm having a bad day is   a glazed donut, and since I can't really find one here I always go for a raspberry muffin .

5.  My absolute specialty in the kitchen is     ... I don't have one that I would call "absolute specialty".  I like trying new things. I also like mixing various cuisines together and make it my own fusion cooking...My aunt calls it Selmanese style. I make a good Oyakodonburi (Japanese rice dish with chicken, onion and egg) but I do add some stuff or make it a tiny bit different, so it's not that authentic. My "Ventura Salad" is to die for (yes, sounds conceited but it's what it is!), and my Jambalaya's great too (that is if you like hot!) .

6.  The city that has the best food is    *seriously? just one city?* Istanbul *and I'm biased here*    and my favorite restaurant there is    hmmmm...just one?! Seriously, when it comes to food and restaurants I can't pick one...there's Koco, there's Zanzibar, there's...I could go on and on and on....so this is very hard. I could also pick other cities because I just can't pick one particular city!!! That's what I get from traveling too much! Hmmmm....this makes me hungry now.

7.  My favorite healthy snack is    slices of granny smith apples. Can't get enough of them.

8.  In my opinion the nationality which has the best food is    ...how about area/continent?  Then it's  Asia - awesome Thai, Japanese, Korean, Chinese and then Filipino food....yum!!!

9.  If I could learn to cook anything in the world (and be really good at it!) I'd choose    a good, healthy home dinner...for example just a steak with mashed potatoes *made from scratch, no box there*, gravy *also not from a box* and all the other things...just something comfortable, yummy, and homemade...or a roastbeef or something. I'm craving meat right now, can you tell? Just something my future kids would say "we look forward to eating mom's specialty...a childhood memory!"...just something like that.

10.  The most outrageous dessert I've ever had was    anything with chocolate. And here I mean outrageous in a completely different way. I don't like chocolate, so anything with chocolate is outrageous to me. Haha. And yes, I got plenty of that. :(
The most outrageous (in a good way) was a strawberry Pavlova in Istanbul. Awe (!!!)-mazing, will enver forget that one. Huge and topped with so many strawberries. Just awesome.

pavlova is one of my favorite deserts! My mother in law makes pavlova to die for, for real. Man, this is making me so hungry. I'm not a big chocolate fan either, especially chocolate cake or ice cream. bleh.
