The Words

I'll be watching this soon.
Not because of Bradley Cooper (yeah, sorry!), but because I like movies like that...it may be predictable, or it may not be. All I know is, September 7 I will be watching this! :) YES. Oh wow, that's in a couple of days...

...I am excited. Who wants to join me?!

Weekend recap

Last week was horrible. I had so much to work on I thought it would never end. On top of it all, one of my closest friends got this terrible toothache that pretty much made me suffer with her. There's nothing you can do but pop in those meds, wait and hope for the moment you feel nothing again. Crazy. I needed something uplifting, something fun, something that would distract both of us.

It just so happened that my friend Erin celebrated her birthday Saturday night. And hey, you only turn 30 once so you better celebrate and be part of that spectacle. Plus, who can say no to yummy food and drinks? I certainly couldn't! ;)

Not to mention the Avalon hotel letting us be their guests. Thank you.

How could I have said no to this?
So glad I was in town!

 I had the Erinberry Mojito.
It was very good!

Most of us I'm sure wanted to jump into the pool, but we didn't.
It was closed anyways...maybe better! :)

 Candy...absolutely necessary!

A slice or two of the birthday cake.
I liked it...it wasn't too sweet and that was just perfect!

Don't mind my pose...not sure why I wanted to make myself shorter!
I blame it on the Erinberry!!!

It was a great evening!!
For more (and better) photos please visit Lynn's blog over at The Actor's Diet.

Hope you all had a great weekend.

It'll be slightly silent in the next few days (especially next week) around here...finals are approaching.
I know you understand.

Sometimes...

...you just got to let it all go and see what happens.

I had rules. I had plans.
And years ago, all of that collapsed by itself. Poof. Gone.
If you ever had major plans with your life and out of nowhere everything had to change you can just imagine how I must have felt. I swore to myself never to make huge plans again, never to let anything come between my daily/weekly plans and enjoy the moment as it basically comes along.

Sounds so hippie.
Maybe it is.
I was just tired of having plans, making plans, and then having them all shattered into pieces.
However, we need plans. And we need rules.
My main rule is to LIVE LIFE so I am happy. And hopefully make others also happy in the process. And my main plan is to STAY HAPPY and BE HAPPY, and not let others direct me into things I simply don't want to be directed towards. And if that happens, I become the person you really don't want in your life. If people don't let me be me, I can get nasty, and really who wants that?! I don't. Do you?

So, I have about four weeks left in California...and yes I'll be back but while I'm still here I want to make the best out of it. Every single day, every weekend, every minute! Yes, I have finals too, but besides that life needs to happen too. All on my own pace though!

Even for you workaholics out there don't get caught up on work even though it's your dream job. Don't say tomorrow I'll do it, and don't say next week either. Yes, work is important and it gives you some sort of freedom (the one I don't have at the moment), but remember you have a life too, and friends, and loved ones, and what not...
...and work doesn't thank you for anything in the end. It is just done and finished but doesn't physically thank you.
SO go out, enjoy life, breathe the ocean breeze, look at palm trees, eat some shaved ice, eat a hot dog if you must or eat gluten free muffins...whatever it is, do it. Don't wait till later, or tomorrow, or next week. It may not gonna happen.

But stay true to yourself. Don't do anything because you are told to. Don't let others force you. Remember who you are, and remember what you want and don't want and follow that. And let others know too. I just had to the other night. I may have disappointed people around me, but if I don't say it now they won't understand or accept it. They may not understand but they should accept...let's just say it that way.

And that my friends is my philosophy of today...well, of every day, but I had to write it down and share it because it is important to remind us that we need to live life, too.

So, what am I gonna do for the next couple of weeks?
Live it, and love it.
May is gonna be awesome! It just has to be.

I'm in my city, I'm surrounded by very generous friends and people and the sun is basically shining 24/7. Why not enjoy it every minute? And, yes, May is the month right before my birthday month (as you know, I'm a June baby!!), so I gotta enjoy my last month before a new number appears on my back. Ugh.

Let it all begin...
...without plans, but values, I want to pass all finals, attend an awesome 30th birthday party, meet up with more friends (blog friends or not), enjoy some sun, souvenir shopping, and well...the usual, breathing in and out of course!

Happy last couple of days of April!

April 20, 2012

Friday!!! All kinds of randomness...

Without the help of two of my best friends Sierra and Amanda (sadly she has no blog), my blog would have suffered. Thank you two for helping me out. I love spontaneous e-mails asking me to "kidnap" the blog...and as you can see I usually say yes. :)
I believe Amanda will be back next week with some more insight on life...and really I can't wait to read her post again...even with complete lack of regard for capitalization. ;)

Change of topic...
...remember my post about how I have to live with my choices and work through sacrifices and all? Well, yes I do. On a daily basis. And that problem I had back then is now solved. Not entirely, but it turned out with a positive sticky note attached to it. We are adults, and adults can and should handle things civil. And I believe, heck, I know, we both did. My friend understands now and I'm happy that she does, but I'm still healing. That's all I wanted to say about that topic.

But, hey, this post would be super boring if I just talked about friends, and a tiny crisis, and the sunny weather we've been having in California. :) Thank you.

First of all...I've been busy studying my butt off...literally.
I love learning new things and like a sponge sucking it all up, but sometimes I just can't anymore. That's the time I get irritated easily and could technically explode any second!! So, finding me smiling in a picture is a rare thing, and if you do "you're welcome!".
So yeah, don't piss me off...haha! Just saying! :)

Second, I'm gonna try and have some fun this Sunday (since I'm studying all the time, I have to take one day off, no?!). Because, well, some of my blog buddies and I are going to have so much fun. It's a girls' day out so to speak! Am I ready?! I guess so...

We girls will have a blast!!!
And probably I won't be looking proper that day....no real need to dress up and put pretty make-up on! Ha!

And well, I just can't believe it's already Friday, let alone April 20th...where the heck has time gone? In a month I'm already packing, getting ready and what not...I'll miss summer in Los Angeles..but I'll have a blast in Europe. And I know, I have to squeeze at least three of my blog buddies into my suitcase! Crazy.

But until I'm leaving...I'll try to meet up with some friends, attend birthday parties (yay!!) and have a fabulous time because really, life's too precious, and too short sometimes. We all know that.

And just so you all know how I look like....not smiling whatsoever! I know I suck!

Have a fantastic Friday and a great weekend!

My Perfume

I'm ready for spring, and ready for summer!
Best and favorite part of mine right now are perfumes...those that lift you up and make you smile the second you put them on, and make you smell fantastic!! I've been obsessed with the following for let's say a year, but I failed to buy it...because I moved away, and I didn't want to buy it and leave it behind or take it with me and it would break and all...but guess what? The first thing I am going to do when I get home (besides eating, drinking and greeting people and breathing in some Swiss air!) is buying that perfume! I'm in love. It makes me feel happy, it makes me feel feminine, and just so very lovely!

Enough said.

Let's just face it.
I feel pure with this one!

What's your favorite this spring season?!

Friday - Girl Crush

My girl crush this week (for a while to be honest) is Emma Stone!
We are allowed to have girl crushes, right?

Since I'm desperately growing my hair out again I also want to change my color. I'm tired of my brown hair although it's my natural color. Spring is around the corner and I need some inspiration. Just looking at her color (not her natural as you may know!) makes me want to change mine so badly. Suggestions?!

Happy Friday everyone!

Any fun plans planned for the weekend?!
Me?
Nothing except a fun movie night...I heard the Vow is out. :) Haha, just kidding. I was counting down the days. It better be good. Then again, I know it will be. Just has to be.

Shoes, Book and Purple

Last year...wow, never thought I'd say that... I won a pair of Blowfish shoes over at Mara's blog, and I was super stoked. Unfortunately, it took a while until Blowfish and I had the best timing so the shoes I wanted were actually available. We went through four (!!) pairs of shoes until I got a definite "YES, we have those shoes available in your size!" answer...trust me, it was that crazy. I always liked Blowfish, so I was more than just happy when I won the giveaway. Going through ugly finals in December and struggling with funny emails back and forth to find the right pair for me...I finally got these gray flats in at the end of December! 2011 ended really nicely, that's for sure!

Well, and as of 2012...I continue to wear these lovely ones...they are sooo incredibly comfortable, don't hurt a bit and are just simple, classy and girlie at the same time. I wear them as often as even possible, and they never fail me. So if you ever have had Blowfish shoes you may know what I'm talking about here. I am in love!!!

Then, working on getting the best deals on my school books (yes, if you haven't noticed I was brave enough to go back to school - I still wonder why!!) I also finally bought Kori's first novel. It was about time. I just needed something new, something different, and something else than those Indian Legands' books and all. :) I haven't had a chance to read it (yeah, I know!) but I sure will. Promised!

And since this week's rather colder and rainier or whatnot...I was mostly wearing my purple jacket, and one day discovered I had purple nail polish, a purple shirt, and my purple jacket on...I just had to take a picture. It was too awkward...haha! So glad I don't own purple flats or pants!

How has your week been?

Any fun plans for this weekend?

I'll be trying to study, go to the movies, and just chill...I love my PJ-days! ;)

December 3, 2011

"Do you lye crytol gel?"

Ok, folks, let me tell you one thing...
Today is one of those day that I cherish, appreciate, and love my life as of this moment and my life in southern California. There are times I don't (let's be honest, we all do!!), there are times that I feel incredibly homesick, and there are times I just want to hug everyone around me.
Today is one of these days. I had fun. I went out and about and maybe drank a few drinks too many (whoops!!),  and just had a blast!! I finally (and by finally I really mean finally!!) saw Anjelah Johnson. If you are not familiar with her, that's okay, but just know you are missing out big time!!! Luckily fate was on my site and I purchased two tickets at the right (or helped someone in need out), and voila...I had a blast. Granted, I froze my butt off while waiting outside (darn this awful California weather these days!), but at the same time was happily sipping on my Chai Latte. Yay!!! Best time to enjoy some warm beverage anyways...

...and now, scary Sunday is around the corner. Sadly. I have to study like hell to get at least a B on my freakin' math exam tomorrow. No way will I ever get an A in this class.
What is wrong with me? Why am I pushing myself through school again? Will it really help me feel more accomplished, more satisfied, and even smarter? Who knows. Seriously.
At least I am here, and I am living life...that is all that counts. Sometimes you just gotta do all this....and sometimes, as worthless as it may look to you and even sound to you it is all worth the wait, the trouble, the struggle, the agony...it is worth it!!!

I feel blessed, do you?!

Happy weekend everyone.
So sorry I've been MIA lately...I feel I'm missing out on a lot...but hey, I have less than two weeks. One paper due, and all my finals scheduled for the 14th. Can it be any more awful? Oh, and my friend's birthday is coming up too. I know what we are gonna do that weekend, and I don't have to look for a birthday gift anymore. Our fun night out tonight was worth every penny! Thank you. But I'll be in big trouble figuring out what to do and how to juggle school and fun and life and well, me. Haha!

Wish me luck!

xoxo

July 30, 2011

Guess again...

Any idea on where I'm headed to?!
Let's just say it's going to be a change, a lot of work, a lot of organizing and getting used to, but also fun with dear friends (old and new). Am I ready? Probably. It doesn't look like it and I don't feel like it though but it is going to be alright!

As you are reading this I am on a plane towards some hopefully amazing and exciting months ahead of me. Yes, months...and not just days or weeks. I am both thrilled and very scared. It is part of life I know that. We have all been in this situation and I believe there will be more times to come that will bring both emotions back and make me feel the way I'm feeling at this very moment. And yes, I am sure while you're reading this you may wonder and ask yourself where is Selma going? What is she hiding from us? Trust me. I'll let you know sooner than later. ;)

In the meantime...I know good vibes are sent my way and I appreciate every single one. It means a ton to me. Always has and always will.

As mentioned in an earlier post I will be busy for a few week, and therefore I have a few guest writers on this blog. Already had one of my longest blog buddies post a couple of days ago - love her writing style, her views on pretty much anything, and most importantly her candor. Thank you Sam for helping me out!!
And I know you will welcome my guest bloggers with open arms and enjoy them as much as I do when I read their work. I will try and stop by from time to time until I have things settled.
Moreover, I need a new laptop...big time. I left mine at home, because really it is too old and too heavy and I just need a new one. Not used, but completely new. Wish me luck. And when you see me online you can just imagine and assume that I'm using that new fun item of mine!! Or my iPhone...haha. ;)

Have a fabulous day!!!

Weekend Thoughts

My lovely readers,
Where should I begin?
I have hardly no words to describe this weekend.

My weekend started Thursday, and pretty much ends today, Sunday.

Thursday was great. I had a fun time with my friend and her kids. I even realized my future changes are happening for real. I mean, I talked about it, and I've briefly written about it, but then I received something in the mail and I knew that the changes I talked and wrote about are happening and that I'm going to have a whole year full of adventures. Good ones I'm sure. It's just tough to see my friends right now, talk and laugh and then eventually cry. See-you's have become really really tough...

...and then Friday happened.
Friday was both, all bright, glittery and fun and then baaaam...not so fun anymore.
It's not the mood swings (hello?! I'm not that old!! Yet!), it's tragedies that kill the fun, and kill the sunshine in our lives. I used the word kill, because yes, it's what happened on Friday. Not here, but close enough for me to be speechless, wordless, in shock and in pure disgust. This happens when people decide to ruin lives, end lives and still think it's fantastic what they did. I have no words whatsoever for what happened in Norway. I simply have no words, and my heart goes out to everyone affected by this cruel tragedy, this act of violence against humankind.
Really I have no words.

...and then Saturday and Sunday happened, and Sunday is still happening.
Not only is it cold, rainy, windy and just very November like in July, it also is sad. Not just the constant news and updates (and I literally turned off the TV at some point!), but also the constant see-you's I had to go through. Over and over again. It made me appreciate life more, enjoy the bad days and moments we all know exist, and it all made me love every single moment I feel pain, and angst to lose someone or something. It's part of life. Holding my friend's baby was the best thing ever this weekend. It made me smile. It made me even sing, and swing, and talk funny but it was one of the best things ever. I even stopped her from crying. She's got her whole life ahead of her. She's such a sweet and precious little one. And, I'm gonna miss her. She'll be walking by the time I see her next time. I know that much. It already breaks my heart.

However, life is still beautiful.
Life is what we all should enjoy. Every moment, even when we feel pain and feel like everything is going against us. Life is still happening. And it should be cherished.

So my lovely readers...

...I hope your weekend is less tragic, less sad, and a lot warmer. I'm seriously considering taking out my gloves. My scarf is my best friend these days...never thought I'd say this in July. :(

And, as I briefly mentioned it, yes, changes are happening.
I'm going to be moving.
And this my readers will not happen in two months from now, but pretty much in six days! 6!!!!
I'll be pretty busy and emotional, and overwhelmed for the next few weeks but it's going to be alright. I know that much. It always will.
Your good vibes were needed and I received them in all their strength and thank you, for thinking of me. :) It worked!

What does this mean now?
Am I going to be away for a long time?
Don't worry. I'm still going to be around, going to be blogging. Though in the meantime and until I get my regular schedule settled and all I have a few amazing guest bloggers helping me out while I'm busy changing my life. And I will still find time to check in on all of you and read your blogs, and even write a post on my own for a change. I have no idea how often but I know the second I buy a new laptop (yes, right I'm gonna buy a new one!! Any suggestions?!!) and things are slowly settled and all I'll be back in full force! :) With new adventures, new exciting and maybe funny stories...it's going to be all fine!!!

So stay tuned!!!

Happy weekend everyone!!!

xoxo,
      Selma

No Parking - Thank you!

This is what I saw yesterday while walking through the city and exploring some new areas and places.
Now that's a sign I want to have!

Hope you had a great start into this week.
Mine was rather slow.

I got a job offer today. I turned it down.
Now if you are following me on twitter you know why.
It was my old job, and as much as I need the money and would love to get back into some sort of a routine I will not do this to me. I will not sacrifice myself and get myself into this kind of work again, just to help them out and just to earn money. I did this, and no one ever thanked me for it. I suffered, and it made me sick. I will not go there again. And if so, I want a big fat monthly payment (one they cannot afford unfortunately) and at least two people gone before I even step into that place again. None of that will happen, so I won't go. Though just knowing that they are in trouble, and need some good, sincere, and knowledgeable people, ha me!!!, was a good thing to hear today. My heart was jumping up and down. I was happy that things got worse since I left. Yes, I was happy. I still am because I turned the offer down!

Have a terrific day!

Fashion. Coming from Me? No way!

Yes, today, a fashion post is coming from me.
Shocker!!!

One of my awesome friends quite astonishingly (and not surprisingly as I may add) ended up in the fashion business and even started her own line and I am beyond thrilled to share this with you all. I somehow always knew she would go for the fashionista in her. Even when we were younger I adored her style (still do!) and wondered why she was so brave to try on new, colorful things whereas I remained the silent, gray girl. Today I know.

April is usually my month of shopping and finding cool new things. This month not so much. It bugs me a little but I know it's okay and I always have online-window shopping to help me get through my non-shopping phase. Here are a few of my favorite items (I may be biased here) I came across on my online-window shopping day that I'm just drooling over:

It may be spring and soon summer, but this coat is gorgeous!

Love this summer dress
  via

Hello color!
You don't need to be brave to pull this one off - it is awesome!
It is a dress, but I would easily use it as a top, too. {scandalous maybe}
via

This is so cute, it goes with practically anything anytime.

How about a heel in this color?

Or just in simple and perfect black?
Love these pants, and the details to them.

via

This clutch adds magic to anything!

So want that purse - and I don't even like prints. ;)
Ha, who am I kidding? I want all of these items.
I am immensely proud of my friend M. and her accomplishments.
The flowery dress is not from her, but it is equally gorgeous. Yay!

Unfortunately, the website is not yet available in English but it'll be up soon. Promised!
Though looking at fabulous items does not need any language or translator, does it?!
If you know Turkish you are more than welcome to go read and explore. You won't be disappointed.
They are constantly working on the site so more information is going to be available soon!

So, what makes these items and so many more on that site special and stand out?

We all look at fashion from all kinds of angles. These angles do not only include where we come from but also what we have learned in life, what we love, and where we are going. To me these items resemble passion for life, tradition, color, youth, and fun. Maybe it's the Turkish girl in me, or the L.A. lover, or even the Swiss girl - maybe it's all three combined but these items make me proud. It's who I am. It's what I feel and what I see when I look at carefully selected clothing items. It's not something you can define, it is something you feel. And let's be honest, fashion is about just that: the gut feeling that tells you that what you make or buy or long for or even wear is just what you needed in that specific moment.
And as Coco Chanel so nicely said:

Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only.
Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.

I couldn't have said it any better.

What makes them stand out? - Just about everything and anything.
Hope you enjoyed my little fashion post.
Something I have never done before, and quite frankly loved doing it.
Okay maybe I'm a bit biased here, but still, it was fun.

Sunny Weekend

It's a perfect Saturday, and it's going to be a perfect weekend.
Full of sunshine.
Full of life.
Full of inspiration.
Full of happiness.
Perfect in any way.

This picture describes pretty much what I'm going to do this weekend.
Not all the time, but whenever I can I will sit outside, fight with my allergies, daydream, and read. Oh, I also have to clean but that will be done quickly...I'm a pro nowadays. Anyone want my help?! Ha!

Hope you have fantastic weekend plans, unless you have to work.
I know the feeling, trust me.
And I do not miss one bit about it.

Distraction needed

I need a drink!!
Yes I really really do!
And no, I'm not one of those people that drink so their sorrow's gone or they feel better about themselves or whatever happened out in the world. No. I love to enjoy what I drink and don't have to swallow it all at once. I have manners, thank you!
Though I need a drink...it's sunny outside, and it feels like a day at the beach just I'm not even close to any kinda beach....but I would give almost anything to do this right now:

Sigh!

Hope your day is productive!

P.s.: Drink reason: Watched The Vampire Diaries - OMG!

Sometimes...

Four hours of shopping today literally exhausted me.
My feet hurt, my wallet is halfway empty and I am just beyond exhausted.
Though so far, this Saturday has been fun.
Met a friend of mine (so glad we got to hang out again!), went shopping with her (I personally didn't buy much), had interesting chats, and now I will have dinner tonight with that same friend and then watch an ice hockey game, too.
What more is there to want?
Oh yeah, I met two people today I hadn't seen in over maybe 15 years, or more.
That was an amazing coffee time.
We basically bumped into one another, all of us looking for a spot to sit and sip on some espresso.
I just love my city, and my little neighborhood.
To me, this is still the best neighborhood in town - no doubt.
Very relaxed, friendly, open, and artsy. Just about my thing.

Hope your weekend started beautifully.
Have a terrific day.
I need to rest my feet some more.

Thursday Love

I don't feel like blogging.
Not that I don't want to write or share or just vent.
It's a feeling I haven't had in a very long time.
However, it's okay to feel this way because let's face it, we all need a break sometimes.

I got the most amazing call at 11.30pm last night. Yes, that late.
My lovely and awesome friend M. just called and wanted to catch up in a mere of seven minutes. :) Miss her.
When the time is right I will introduce her to this beautiful blog world, because she's got a blog and it's a great one, but it needs work and a bit more posts. :) Wish I could be helping her more, but I'm in Europe, and she's in sunny (or recently rainy) southern California. One day, I promise! ;)
But I know you can do this girl, yes I know.

In other news...life is good.
I had a dentist appointment yesterday, and well, it wasn't the regular kind that gets me excited (yes, you read right I normally get excited about a dentist appointment aka dental hygiene appointment); it was one of those appointments though I dread and did not want to hear or think about. Lucky me, my worries were quickly thrown out of the window (literally, the window there was open!) because my teeth are as flawless as before. And apparently, my teeth are still beautiful. Very corny, really, but that's what my hot dentist told me - again. :) Thank you.

Spring finally arrived and you know how happy this makes me!

all pictures via we ♥ it
Have a perfect Thursday.
I love today, and I love spring!!!

P.s. we all know that Elizabeth Taylor passed away yesterday. Needless to say, she was a legend, a beautiful woman, a fighter, and a winner.

Where Are You Spring?!

Daylight savings time hasn't started over here yet...next weekend. But March to me is the beginning of spring time, and I just do not see any signs of spring these days. Hmmmm....come on!!! Wish I would fly to Philadelphia this spring again just to see things blossom fast and beautiful. :) But this spring I'm staying home, and enjoying it this way...so this leaves me dreaming of flowers, sunshine, fresh air...and all things spring. Obviously.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Happy Friday

Besides this, and a blogger free Friday...
...please remember the rest of the world, too.
Remember New Zealand, Libya, Haiti, Chile, and even the US (yes yes)? All still in need of our help.
We tend to forget because our sole concentration stays on one thing only...
...as heartbreaking as the news of Japan's disaster is, we should not forget the rest of the world too.
There's more to what I listed...but bet ya, you forgot just a bit about one of them? Just a tiny bit.

I'm thankful my Japanese friends are okay, although I now know they are dealing with more tragedy and questions and future issues at this very moment. Life will never fully be the same.

Have a good Friday.

Thank You

Life continues.
Spring arrived, and I'm loving it.
At least something this week brightening up my day.
Monday was a very bad day, Tuesday was a slight bit better, Wednesday was sunny and warm and I saw my favorite soul singer walking towards me (I love those moments - and may I say his family is super cute!), and today, Thursday...only good things will happen.

Thank you all.
I never thought something like this would hit our family so suddenly.
Her friends are grieving, her parents and brother are well, you know. And the rest of the family well, we are trying to live life every minute, and imagine she's in a great place now wondering why she's up there after a fun evening out with her best friend.

To all of you my lovely readers...wherever you are...if you find yourself going out and driving around...no matter what time it is...if you feel just a slight bit tired, even the tiniest amount, get cash and take a cab back home or ride with public transportation. You may not have the funds for a ride like that but in the end it's always worth it. Always. And I hope I do not have to mention the all-time saying: Never ever drink and drive.

One wonderful thing I can be proud of is that alcohol was not involved!!!
Double thank you.

And yes, even during times like these...happy thoughts and moments are important!
